Know 1nm (small molecule) to 100 um (plant cell) and several in between structures, such as, virus, bacterium and animal cell on a comparaitve scale. Also know the diameter of a cell membrane.


Topic 2.1.5 Calculate linear magnification and actual size

* Size calculations. Use the following to convert diagrams to actual size.
Step 1. Divide the tool bar size by the given ratio size. make sure you convert measurements to the same units before dividing. The units will cancel out to give a magnification without units.
Step 2: Measure the size usinf appropriate units, of the diagram that you are asked to determine the size of. Divide this measuremnet by the magnification that you have determined.
Note that in some cases (although not in this homework) you may be given the actual magification, and in this case you would not need to use step 1.
